Varda

Angelina Jolie as Varda Elentari from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion." This piece didn't require too much manipulation--I was more or less just experimenting around in PSP. I pointed her ears, whitened her eyes, drew her hair out and just touched up the pic to give her skin and gown a more celestial feel. The original stands at an amazing 1600x1200 pixels, allowing you to see more of the fine detail that this smaller version does not, such as Varda being slightly transparent to give the illusion that she's one with the night sky.

Yavanna

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Yavanna Kementari from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion." Yavanna stands with the Two Trees of Valinor--Telperion and Laurelin. This piece is my best work yet. The leaves and vines that comprise Yavanna raiment were picture tubes that came with PSP7. The trunks and leaves of the trees were stock photography I found at Webshots that I touced up and recolored to resemble the Two Trees. The leaves are actually a cluster of five or six leaves arranged en masse. I wanted to add the golden fruit and silver blossoms that the trees are described as having, but when I did, it made the picture look too busy and cluttered, so I left them out. The background was another retouched stock photo. I grew out Gellar's hair and recolored it to look like golden wheat. I recolored her skin to a darker, golden tan color to resemble how I envisioned glowing earth would look. This piece used nearly 200 layers and nigh 60 hours of work to complete it. All in all, she looks exactly the way I envisioned Yavanna when I first read "The Silmarillion."

The Perfect Witch

Nicole Kidman as Queen Jadis, The White Witch from C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia." This was inspired by a rumor that Kidman had been cast as Jadis is the upcoming film adaption of the book. When I read "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" back in eighth grade, I just sort of attached myself to Jadis. I always thought that no one really ever gave the poor girl a chance to be anything but a villain and I really felt bad for her. Anyways, Jadis' gown was completely made from scratch--even the fur collar. I paled her skin to give it a wintery look and drew her hair long and black, because I always envisioned Jadis with black hair for some reason. The crown is a recolored stock photo and the background used is another stock photo.

Sweetly Phoenix

Holly Marie Combs as the X-Men's Jean Grey a la Phoenix. Just a simple skin touch up and hair and eye recolor. She was used for an role playing character (which you'll see if you scroll down further) but I liked the way she turned out so much I resuited her in the Phoenix costume and made her Jean Grey. The costume was made from scratch, and didn't turn out how I wanted it to. It looks way more cartoon-y than I would've liked. The background is from the last page of Ultimate X-Men 21.

Illyana

Rachel Skarsten as Illyana Rasputin aka Magik of the New Mutants. This was my second photo manip ever, so please excuse the shoddy quality. I touched up her skin and hair and recolored her eyes (obviously.) The suit was done completely from scratch and for one reason or another, I've not ever been able to achieve that silvery white chrome effect. The sword was stock photography and the background was a "Lord of the Rings" wallpaper. Considering this was my second manip ever, I'm still very proud of it, despite it not being up to par with my later work.

The Hound

Rachel Skarsten as Rachel Summers from the X-Men. Her outfit was made from scratch and came out a little more rubbery than I would have liked. The braid part of her hair was also made from scratch while the top part was just drawn out. Overall it's my favorite of my Rachel Summers pieces.

The Bright Lady

Keira Knightley as Rachel Summers. Just a simple experimental piece in making Haound marks (the stripes on her face.) Recolored and touched up her hair for more strand detailing. Erased the spaghetti straps Knightley was wearing because they clashed with the rest of the picture. Used a lighting effct for the glowing eyes. Just a very simple piece.

Please Ignore The Rack

Another Keira Knightley as Rachel Summers, this time in her Marvel Girl uniform. Her chest came out way bigger than I anticipated and short of starting all over again, I really couldn't fix it. The hair was cropped and pasted from another model, recolored and flipped out. The costume was created from scratch and again came out a little rubbery. The shades were taken from a sunglass retailer's website, recolored and set at a transparency. The background came from a Final Fantasy wallpaper.

New & Improved

Can you tell my favorite character is Rachel Summers? Again using Keira Knightley. The costume and gloves were made from scratch, as was her abdomen, as Knightley was wearing a full-length top in the picture. The hair again came off another model and I used the same shades featured in the previous manip. Another Final Fantasy wall serves as the background.

Crystal Eyes

Rachel Leigh Cook as Rachel the Banshee. She's an original character of mine that I created for a role playing game. This piece was an experiment in making hair using a tutorial that a friend of mine gave me. The skin was touched up and her eyes were lightened and recolored to evoke and icy feel.

Lil' Lilac Banshee

Another Rachel Leigh Cook as Rachel the Banshee. It's one of my earlier manips and an experiment in making costumes from scratch. It's not as high res as other pieces, but I'm still quite proud of how the gown came up (the rest of her ain't my best work.)

Purple Punker Banshee

Rachel the Banshee did a little character development in this particular role playing game. To match her new attitude, I reinvented her look. Her clothes got a little more punk but still evokes the same Renaissance-esque style she sported earlier. Her clothes were created from scratch, the lacy sleeves being created from a brush. Parts of her chest, torso and arms had to be colored in to cover up the clothes the actress was originally wearing in the photo. The choker and belt buckle were taken from a jewelry retailer's website. Her hair was "cut" and "layered", her eyes and make-up recolored and her skin smoothed out (a bit too much, I think.) Some sparkles were added around her eyes, hair and jewelry because...well, because I was going through a sparkle phase, LOL. The background was made from a bunch of "Charmed" brushes. She didn't turn out too bad, though she looks more video game-ish than human.

Fire Soul

Erica Durance as Phoenix, another original character for another role playing game. A basic recoloring of the just about everything and an experiment in curly hair and fiery eyes. I was very pleased with the way she turned out.

Fire Spirit

Another Phoenix, this time complete with fiery wings. This manip was an utter bitch to deal with. I had to work on a relative large canvas to make get her wings just right and the size of the pic kept crashing PSP every five minutes. The wings are a recolored and touched up stock photo. I wanted them to look like they were composed of fire, but I just couldn't get the effect to look anything remotely like fire or wings, so I ended up on just going with fiery shades of gold color. The skin was recolored, as were the hair and eyes. Her clothes remain the same with the exception of her top's straps--I had to alter the straps to look like they were a halter top, because with those giant wings of her, it'd be difficult for her to wear anything but.

Nienna of the Night

Holly Marie Combs as another role playing character of my own invention, Nienna, based on "The Silmarillion" character of the same name. In the plotline, there was a masquerade ball for everyone to attend and Nienna went dressed as the night sky. Her gown was made from scratch (the stars I had made previously and used in the Varda manip.) Recolored her hair, paled her skin and gave her "power eyes." The moon used in the sky and on her mask were stock, as was the wall behind her. The clouds were brushes.

Weeping Warrior

Here's Nienna dressed in her combat attire, which is based of a costume that appears on the cover of book one of Sara Doglass' "The Wayfarer Redemption." Her hair and costume was made from scratch and parts of her skin were colored in to cover the clothes worn by the actress in the original photo. Sword pendant is actually a picture of "The Lord of the Rings'" Anduril. Her staff was stock taken from a martial arts supplies retailer's site and cromed to look metal. In the original 1500x1900 manip, runes can be seen exgraved on the staff and bronze necklace. Background taken from stock.

Redd

Holly Marie Combs as Redd, a batman character I played in a "Smallville" RPG a couple years ago. Costume was made by scratch, and the red bat symbol was not easy to make. Background taken from a "Birds of Prey" promotional poster.

The Perfect Storm

For the longest time, I've been very disappointed with Halle Berry's performance as Storm in the X-Men films, but I couldn't think of anyone who could do beter job. Then I saw Stargate Atlantis. Rachel Luttrell has the unique beauty I've always imagined of Storm. She does her own martial arts and stunts, so she's capable of evoking the type of warrior Storm is. And unlike Halle Berry, the woman can act!

Dream Me

Some days I feel like the ugliest person alive. I know, I know--"there are more important things to life than being pretty." Still, it gets me every once in awhile. So then I started thinking who I'd like to look like, and while, yes, I'd settle to look like any number of the beautiful women out there, there wasn't a single one that was "perfectly beautiful," in my opinion. So I decided to manip what I'd like to look like--and here she is.

Dream me is composed of Claudia Black's hair (except I couldn't find any good Claudia hair pics to manip, so I improvised and used Charisma Carpenter's hair and colored it black), Anna Nalick's eyes (with the blue-green content hyped up), Julia Stiles' nose, Jennifer Garner's lips, and Keira Knightley's face. Ain't she just the prettiest thing you've ever seen?

Artisically, I didn't think I'd be able to pull off a Frankenstein quite this realistic looking. The eyebrows are kinda teh suck, but otherwise, she looks like a real person, IMO. Even though she's a manip, she looks like she has a soul.

How sad is it that I'm jealous of a picture?

Butterflies Are For Wimps

Kelly Hu as Psylocke. Her pose was just perfect for the purple-haired psychic ninja. The costume was completely painted from scratch, along with most of the skin on her legs. Her hair was taken from Kristin Kreuk and recolored. The psychic knife was the most difficult to create. It was fuschia and black squiggles with a Radial Blur set to hard light and dodge. The background was taken from an X3 promotional image.

Butterflies Are For Wimps Variant

Variant of the above piece in it's original color.

A Fae's Tale

Left to right: Shawn Ashmore as Blue Fae, Amber Tamblyn as Green Fae, and Allison Mack as Golden Fae. This was a challenge at a message board to create a fantasy movie poster. Mine was about a young college student (Tamblyn) who is turned into a Fae.

Ashmore's costume is a recolored and de-detailed version of Legolas' costume with Vin Diesel's arm. Mack's costume is leaf stock with Amber Tamblyn's upper torso and some random model's legs. Tamblyn's costume is a simple recolor. Wings and background from stock, with glitter brushes.

Bella

I got bored and let my friends request photomanips. One friend liked the "Dream Me" manip so much, that she asked me to do one for her, but to make her a Hogwart's student.

Drew Barrymore's nose, Kate Winslet's eyes, Rachel Weisz's lips, Alyssa Milano's hair (smudged for silky smoothness), and Hermione Granger's costume. Background from stock.

X-Heroes

A birthday present for a friend of mine--three of her favorite Heroes characters as X-Men. She got the nice hi-res wallpaper version. Claire is in Rogue's costume, Peter in Angel's, and Hiro in Wolverine's. Background from X3 promotional images, and sword from stock.

Lupin & Tonks

Another birthday present for another friend of mine. She got the nice hi-res wallpaper version (with a pretty background) along with a variant version. Her ideal Tonks was Rachek Weisz, and...well...she couldn't think who would make a good Lupin, but she didn't like Thewlis's interpretation of the character. So I recast him with David Wenham.

Lupin: Alexis Denisof's jacked from Angel S5 with various stock textiles for patchwork. His hair was grown out a little to look shaggier.

Tonks: Recolored T-Shirt from CafePress, Emma Watson's legs, Allison Mack's hair recolored.
